Jose Mourinho has reportedly told friends that he ‘cannot believe’ Tottenham are yet to sign a back-up striker for Harry Kane this summer.
Spurs paid the price for relying solely on Kane upfront last season, with the England captain’s serious hamstring injury in January leaving Mourinho without a recognised centre-forward for eight matches.
And with just over a week to go in the summer transfer window, the north London club are set to embark on another campaign without an understudy to Kane.
According to The Sun, Mourinho has told friends he is in disbelief over Spurs chief Daniel Levy’s failure to land another striker.
It is believed the Special One was keen to sign Ollie Watkins from Brentford this summer, only to watch on as Aston Villa completed a £28million deal for the 24-year-old – who scored 28 goals last season.
Spurs have also been linked with a move for Metz forward Habib Diallo, yet no official offer has been launched for the Senegal international.
Mourinho’s frustration at not adding another striker to his ranks is understandable given the strike forces his rivals obtain.
Chelsea boast a frontline that includes £54million recruit Timo Werner, as well as Tammy Abraham and Olivier Giroud.
Manchester City have Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus at their disposal, while Liverpool can rely on Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi at the pinpoint of their attack.
His former club Manchester United are able to deploy either Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford or Odion Ighalo upfront, while Arsenal have Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette to go with in-form marksman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Even Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has two centre-forwards to choose from in Jamie Vardy and Kelechi Iheanacho.

A friend of Mourinho’s told The Sun: “Tottenham is the only club in the world with one striker.
“It is the same as last season. Do fans really think Jose wants four left-backs, six wingers and one striker? It is incredible.”
