Jose Mourinho has gone from not knowing the name of a young Tammy Abraham during their time together at Chelsea to relying on the striker during Roma's journey to Europa Conference League glory.

Abraham fired home a fine tally of 27 goals during his debut season in Italy, nine of which came in Europe as Roma made it all the way to Tirana before beating Feyenoord in the final thanks to Nicolo Zaniolo's first-half strike.

Despite relishing his time working under the Special One, Abraham does recall their lack of contact during their time together at Stamford Bridge – although he was playing in the youth side at the time.

Appearing on the Que Golazo Podcast alongside Rick Karsdorp and Ainsley Maitland-Niles, both Smalling and Abraham gave their thoughts on their former, and current boss.

When told that the Special One seems to have mellowed during his time at Roma, Smalling said with a chuckle: "I don't think he's mellowed that much. He's not changed too much.

"But no it's been good, it was a surprise having worked with him before. And it's good to get to another final with him for sure."

With Abraham saying in response to the same question with a smile: "Erm, I think back then when we were at Chelsea I don't think he knew my name at the time so…

"So it's nice for him to know my name… no no, but it's been good."

Abraham didn't get to feature under Mourinho at Chelsea, breaking into the first-team squad for the first time a year after Mourinho's second spell came to an end.

Abraham speaking to BT Sport after the victory, said: "One thing I said when I came was I was going to help my team get to the final and win a trophy in my first season.

"We deserved it we have worked hard all year.

"I love them [the Roma fans}. From day one it has been the best. We are champions, I am happy to be part of the team. Now it is time to party and celebrate."
