Jordan Pickford has allayed fears about Harry Kane’s fitness by claiming the England captain is ‘fine’ after he picked up a knock in the side’s 6-2 win against Iran on Monday.
Kane went down under a heavy challenge in the early stages of the second half of that match, and appeared to get his ankle trapped, leading to him receiving treatment from England’s medical staff.
He was able to continue, but was then replaced later in the half, and England sent him for a scan as a precaution to check that there was no significant damage to his ankle.

Jordan Pickford has said Kane is ‘fine’ and was back in training with the squad on Wednesday
Pickford has confirmed that Kane returned to training on Wednesday, and seems to have recovered from his injury scare.
‘I think he’s good. Probably feeling a little bit sore, but I think he’s fine,’ Pickford said during a press conference on Wednesday.
‘He’s out on the grass today with us so that’s good, and he’s our captain and I think he’s fine.’
England made the perfect start to their group by thrashing Iran, and they didn’t even need Kane to get on the scoresheet, with Jude Bellingham, Raheem Sterling, Marcus Rashford and Jack Grealish adding to Bukayo Saka’s brace.
The Three Lions have been reliant on Kane over the years, though, with the Tottenham striker scoring 51 goals in 76 caps for his country.
He also won the Golden Boot four years ago, and England will be relieved that he appears to have avoided a serious injury.
Callum Wilson came off the bench and impressed against Iran, and Pickford does not believe that Kane is irreplaceable for England
However, Pickford has denied that Kane is the one player in Gareth Southgate’s squad that is irreplaceable.
‘I think everyone will take their chance,’ Pickford continued.
‘When Harry came off, Callum came on and played really well, got the assist for Jack. He was very unselfish and gave Jack his goal.
I think everyone’s training really hard, everyone’s here for a reason to play football, but obviously Harry is an unbelievable player. He sets the example in the squad. He’s the leader, he’s the captain, but there’s also opportunities for other lads as well.’
