Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson’s future at the club is plagued with uncertainty after contract talks have reached a worrying stalemate. Henderson reportedly could be eyeing a stunning exit before the 2021/22 season if the club’s stance on his status isn’t made clear.

According to the Daily Mirror, the 31-year-old is now seriously considering his position at Anfield.

Contract negotiations are said to be at an impasse with little hope of being reignited at present.

Several top European clubs, including Paris Saint-Germain and Atletico Madrid, are monitoring Henderson’s situation.

Sources close to the player and with knowledge of the current circumstances have stated that the midfield star could be set to take drastic action.

The Mirror say Henderson will demand that Liverpool inform him whether they want him to remain at the club.

Manager Jurgen Klopp ‘passionately’ wants his skipper to stay put per the report, but he also wanted Georginio Wijnaldum to extend terms before his free transfer to PSG.

If director Mike Gordon and sporting director Michael Edwards don’t value Henderson as they didn’t Wijnaldum, he will actively look to leave this summer.

Henderson is thought to want to avoid the situation his former team-mate found himself in where talks dragged out before the Dutchman left on a free.

If he is to stay, the England international wants his value to the team reflected in any new contract.

Gordon and Edwards didn’t account for Klopp’s desires as Liverpool let Wijnaldum slip through their fingers this summer.

Therefore, letting a player as big as Henderson leave in the same window could become an issue.

Now north of 30, Henderson wants his future sorted now and not in 2023 when he would be 33 and in his twilight years.

If Liverpool can’t offer him what he wants in the next month or so, his departure could be a genuine possibility.

It seems like an impossible outcome for Liverpool fans, but his demands stated in the Mirror’s report are severe.

The Reds can’t afford to lose Wijnaldum and Henderson in the same transfer window without signing a replacement.

With just over a month of the transfer window remaining, it would be in the club’s best interest to be straight with Henderson and resolve the situation.
