John Terry names toughest Man Utd player he ever faced during Chelsea career

John Terry has named the toughest Manchester United player he faced during his 19-year career in Chelsea’s first-team.

Former England international Terry made his debut for the Blues in October 1998, going on to make more than 700 appearances and winning five Premier League titles.

34 of his Chelsea appearances came against the Red Devils, with the defender playing more times against just two other Premier League teams.

Terry had a very good record when coming up against United, winning 13, drawing 10 and losing 11 of the clashes between Chelsea and the Manchester giants.

For the most part, United were at the peak of their powers under Sir Alex Ferguson during Terry’s long career.

That meant that Terry faced the likes of Ruud Van Nistelrooy, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robin van Persie, among other top strikers.

But he has not revealed that the toughest United player he ever came up against was one of his former England team-mates.

In a Q&A session on Twitter, Terry was asked: “Who was the most difficult Manchester United player you ever faced?”

His response to that question was simply “Rooney”, indicating his hardest United opponent was Wayne Rooney.

Is John Terry Chelsea's greatest ever captain? Let us know in the comments section…

Rooney scored nine goals in all competitions against Chelsea for the Red Devils, which mainly came in the top-flight.

Terry and Rooney both played all three of the Champions League meetings between their two sides, with Rooney and his United side winning all of them.

The legendary Blues captain usually came out on top in their clashes in the league though, with Rooney scoring only three goals when Terry played.

The final encounters between the pair during their careers at Chelsea and United came in the 2015/2016 season.

The first match ended in a goalless draw, with both Terry and Rooney playing all 90 minutes, while the second game ended 1-1, with the United attacker providing the assist for his side’s goal.
