Jesse Lingard contract talks ‘collapse’ with Man Utd exit in 2022 now a given

Jesse Lingard's future at Manchester United appears to be hanging by a thread following reports that talks over a new deal have collapsed.

The 28-year-old has just over six months left on his contract at United.

And, according to The Times, he has zero interest in reopening negotiations as he looks for regular football ahead of next year's World Cup.

It's understood that he's unhappy about his recent lack of playing time, particularly after being assured of more minutes following a successful loan spell at West Ham United last season.

He's also upset that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer decided to start Daniel James ahead of him at the beginning of the season despite the fact the Wales international was on the verge of a move to Leeds United.

United rejected a number of offers for Lingard last summer, but the arrivals of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho have pushed him back down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

The winger has only managed 63 minutes of football in the league so far this campaign, with his only start this season coming in the Carabao Cup against West Ham in September.

Lingard has spent 22 years in Manchester, but is now on the verge of leaving the club permanently for the very first time.

However, Lingard is open to leaving on loan in January, with Barcelona and AC Milan even touted as potential suitors, as well as old club West Ham.

Lingard has made over 200 appearances for United since breaking into the side back in 2015 following loan spells with Leicester City, Birmingham City, Brighton & Hove Albion and Derby County.

He famously scored the winning goal in the 2016 FA Cup final against Crystal Palace.
