Former England star Jamie Carragher slammed fans for criticising manager Gareth Southgate following a dismal showing against Hungary in the Nations League.
A heavily rotated England XI were thrashed 4-0 at a packed-out Molineux. The full-time whistle was met with a chorus of boos as Three Lions supporters highlighted their displeasure at a wretched run of form – the Euro 2020 finalists are yet to win a game in their current Nations League campaign.
England sit bottom of Group A4 on two points, having scored just once in four matches. There have even been calls for Southgate to be sacked but former Three Lions ace Carragher blasted supporters who chose to chant jibes towards the England boss.
The Sky Sports pundit tweeted: "'You don’t know what you’re doing' shut up you clowns. This manager has taken the country in two tournaments to the best positions since 1966."
He later added: "Also this idea that Southgate is holding this group back is nonsense, this squad is no better than 2004/6 1996/98. Southgate has overachieved albeit with favourable draws. Rest up boys & come back to your normal level."
However, Carragher's analysis was not well received on social media with fans hitting back at the former Liverpool defender. "Behave Carra we can’t be losing to Hungary 4-0," fumed one supporter.

"You can’t be serious Jamie? He’s beaten teams we are EXPECTED to beat, we then lose to anyone who is an actual threat. It’s not good enough," blasted another.
"Couldn’t have hand picked 2 better routes, won’t ever have a better chance of lifting a trophy, hasn’t got a clue what our best team or formation is 2 games before a World Cup. Going to waste yet another tournament," slammed a third.
Whilst a fourth quipped: "And Rodgers nearly won Liverpool the league but your club still rightfully sacked him."
