James Rodriguez loses mind chasing ref as fans accuse him of deliberate red card

Former Real Madrid midfielder James Rodriguez was shown a red card following a moment of madness for Al-Rayyan.

The Colombian star completely lost his head with the referee after initially receiving a yellow for an incident he wasn’t involved in.

He could be seen shouting and trying to square up to the man in the middle to protest his innocence, with his teammates needing to hold him back.

His angry reaction led to a second yellow, with the 30-year-old given his marching orders in the 99th minute of play, with his team losing 2-1 against Al-Arabi.

This was only his third appearance for Al-Rayyan since joining from Everton back in September.

Life had started well for him, after scoring last week against Al-Sailiya, but this week’s game will be remembered for completely different reasons.

The situation started after Rodriguez had been fouled on the edge of the opposition box, with an altercation occurring between both sides while he remained on the floor.

Upon getting back to his feet, the referee brandished a yellow, which prompted his furious reaction.

Will James Rodriguez get another chance to prove himself in Europe? Let us know in the comments section.

To make matters worse, after being given his marching orders, he sarcastically clapped the official and removed his shirt as he jogged off.

This incident could lead to a lengthy ban, which would not be the start he wanted to life in Qatar.

Rodriguez’s stand-out career still remains his stunning strike for Columbia against Uruguay at the 2014 World Cup.

That goal led to a move to Real Madrid, but things didn’t work out as planned at the Bernabeu.

After a frustrating time there, he moved to Everton in 2020, but despite a positive start, things quickly fizzled out for him in the Premier League.

Some fans from his former club were quick to poke fun at him on social media for his recent antics.

One wrote: “He ran off the pitch quick enough, can’t be that badly injured. Must have a streaming session pencilled in for the next three weeks."

Another agreed jokingly: “He has done that deliberately, so he doesn’t have to play, he has three weeks off now.”

One Everton fan also stated: “Showing more passion in this clip than the entire second half of last season.”
