Jadon Sancho will be ready to join Manchester United over the next month, but the £108million-rated star is likely to remain a Borussia Dortmund player this season.
United are desperate to secure a deal for Sancho, who registered 20 goals and as many assists for Dortmund last season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has identified the 20-year-old as a top transfer target this summer, yet his £108million price tag is proving too steep in the current climate.
Daily Star Sport previously reported that United would turn their attention to Real Madrid outcast Gareth Bale in the event they failed to sign Sancho.
However, Bale is instead set to rejoin Tottenham, coming as a major blow to the Red Devils.
And according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Sancho is unlikely to leave Dortmund before the transfer window closes on October 5 – despite the England youngster setting his sights on a move to Old Trafford.
“In my opinion Jadon Sancho will stay in Dortmund,” Romano said on Podsavetheball.
“I don’t see United paying the money this summer after the virus. If they do they will get the player – Jadon Sancho is ready for one month and the agent.
“I think #mufc would be crazy to wait one month on standby as they are right now – and thinking okay we are not going for Sancho but another player. They know if they put this money they can get Sancho.
“€120m this summer would be fantastic for Dortmund – if they receive this bid they would do something like a ‘masterclass’ in the transfer market – like winning the title, because if you get this money this summer you are a king.”
After spending close to £200million last term, United have been fairly quiet in the current transfer window, only forking out £35million on Dutch midfielder Donny van de Beek.
