ALVISE CAGNAZZO: Inter Milan’s transfer failings this summer have left the club in a £33MILLION hole following the termination of Alexis Sanchez’s contract… with Denzel Dumfries, Milan Skriniar and Edin Dzeko ‘sad’ with the San Siro limbo
- Cancelling Alexis Sanchez’s contract cost Inter 80 percent of his final salary
- Inter missed out on top targets this summer Gleison Bremer and Paulo Dybala
- Denzel Dumfries ‘sad’ he’s not seen as irreplaceable by the club after great year
- Milan Skriniar would like future resolved after Inter priced him out of PSG move
- Edin Dzeko realises he’ll be playing second-fiddle to returning Romelu Lukaku
Problems are mounting for Inter Milan as president Giuseppe Marotta has a squad full of players uncertain about their future after failures in the transfer market have left the club in a hole.
In a summer where their rivals Juventus, Roma and Lazio have been very proactive, the blue-half of the San Siro has missed out on top targets like Gleison Bremer and Paulo Dybala.
They have managed to bring Romelu Lukaku back to the club on-loan but terminating Alexis Sanchez’s contract is said to have cost the club 80 percent of the Chilean’s final year in his deal.
Things haven’t gone to plan for Giuseppe Marotta this summer but he still has time

The club are around £33.7 million out of pocket and have been indecisive as to how they want to recoup that money.
Slovakian defender Milan Skriniar looked set to join PSG, but a dispute over the fee put the brakes on the deal.
The French giants valued him at £50m but Marotta held out for £58.7m. His stubbornness cost him the chance to solve the club’s financial issues and now Skriniar is not sure about his future.
The fact that Inter were clearly trying to sign Bremer as a possible replacement doesn’t help the club’s position with Skriniar either. He would like to go to PSG, but Marotta has his own agenda.
Denzel Dumfries is another player the club value but are evidently exploring how much they can get for him in today’s mark.
The Dutch full-back only joined Inter for around £12.5 million last season but similarly to Achraf Hakimi, his value has rocketed after one great season.
After just one year at Inter, Denzel Dumfries’ stock has risen greatly and alerted Europe’s elite
At 36-years-old, Dzeko knows he’s in the winter of his career and is likely to sit behind Lukaku
Cheslea are sniffing around the 26-year-old who finds himself expendable given manager Simone Inzaghi’s fondness for 3-5-2. It’s understood he’s not happy being in limbo just like Skriniar.
Then there’s ex-Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko. The Bosnian left Roma last summer to lead the line for Inter and scored 13 goals in Serie A last term.
With the arrival of Lukaku, Dzeko will now play second fiddle to the man he was originally brought in to replace.
At 36, he doesn’t appear concerned with departing the San Siro in search of regular football. He’s happy cashing in the big salary that Marotta could do with recouping.
