Former Tottenham player Jamie O’Hara has revealed that manager Harry Redknapp once joined his squad on a trip to the Cheltenham Race Festival just days before a match against Manchester United.
Joining Tubes and Ange’s Golf Life on their YouTube channel, O'Hara revealed Redknapp spent time at the festival after initially denying his players the chance to go themselves, but he would be convinced with a perk.
O’Hara said: “The best story I’ve got on him is probably the Cheltenham Festival when we had to play Manchester United on a Saturday and we went to Cheltenham on a Wednesday.
“We went as a team, got the team bus there, Harry organised it.
“What he didn’t know was that on the Thursday, Jonathan Woodgate organised a helicopter.
“He went in big – it was just the lads, no management or anything like that.”
O’Hara then revealed that Redknapp was fuming about it as he had no prior knowledge, saying that the players that attended the races would not be selected for the match against Manchester United.
“But Harry got wind of it and we came in on Thursday morning for training.
“He pulled us in; not talk of the Manchester United game or anything and he said: ‘Lads, I’ve heard you’re going to Cheltenham after training! None of you are allowed! If I see any of you at Cheltenham, you’re not involved on Saturday!’”

But, Redknapp would be convinced, provided, there was some benefit for him.
“We asked Woody to have a word with him and that we couldn’t turn down Cheltenham Thursday," O'Hara added.
“We’re thinking there’s no chance he lets us go, but Woody had a word with him and said ‘If I organise a chopper for you and your mates, do you all want to go’ and he (Redknapp) said ‘Yeah, I’ll have that!’
“We were there at Cheltenham and then got a result against Manchester United – we drew 1-1.”
Redknapp managed Spurs between 2008 and 2012, leading them to Champions League qualification once.
