Hakim Ziyech slammed by Chelsea fans for worst ever cameo in clubs history

Hakim Ziyech had an absolute horror performance after coming on off the bench against Dinamo Zagreb and Chelsea fans are calling it the 'worst ever cameo in club's history'.

It came as the Blues succumbed to an embarrassing 1-0 defeat in Croatia against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. Chelsea came into the match with hundreds of millions worth of talent in their team, including summer imports Wesley Fofana, Kalidou Koulibaly and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

However, it made a jot of difference as Mislav Orsic – quickly becoming something of European legend after goals against West Ham and Tottenham – scored the only goal of the game to hand defeat to Thomas Tuchel's beleaguered side.

It ramps the pressure up on the German, who sent Ziyech on at half-time to try and reverse the scoreline.

The decision backfired spectacularly, though, as the Moroccan put in a performance that had fans demanding he be sold as soon as the game finished. Ziyech came on for Cesar Azpilicueta, moving to the right flank as Reece James tucked in, but his impact was minimal.

Tuchel then decided to try him out on the other wing but the former Ajax star was even more ineffectual – even failing to chase down a ball that was trickling out of play and could have been collected if a bit of oomph was given.

But that was just the aperitif to the real moment of horror – two moments in truth – when Ziyech stepped up to take a free-kick in a dangerous area with time running out. As anticipation built, the 29-year-old blasted the ball straight at the wall.

To make matters worse, about two minutes later, Chelsea were awarded a free-kick in pretty much the exact spot. Ziyech took the ball off Reece James before placing his effort at the same player in the same bit of the wall for the second time in a row.

Chelsea fans, already boiling with frustration, vented their fury on social media and directed it at Ziyech, with one saying: "Ziyech shouldn’t be allowed back into the training ground. Most arrogant big head I’ve seen."

Another wrote: "You have taken the award off Bakayoko vs Watford for the worst ever cameo in the history of the club."

And a third said: "Ziyech played like someone who was trying to pass a message that he should have been allowed to leave."

While another fan tweeted: "Ziyech – Get him gone."

The winger was close to leaving Chelsea in the transfer window and there was interest from former club Ajax, though they did not want to meet Chelsea's asking price. Manchester United were also linked in stunning fashion as a player that Erik ten Hag knows well from his time in Amsterdam.
