Frank Lampard ‘considered’ for Newcastle job with Steve Bruce set to be replaced

Steve Bruce's days at Newcastle United look numbered with former Chelsea manager Frank Lampard considered as his replacement.

Following the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund's £300m takeover, Bruce is out of favour on Tyneside with many anticipating his departure before Newcastle's next game against Tottenham on Sunday.

The Magpies sit second-bottom of the Premier League table and are yet to pick up a single win this season after being knocked out of the League Cup by Burnley.

Despite their poor form, there is cause for celebration; the takeover signifies the end of Mike Ashley's 14-year tenure.

Often criticised by Toon fans for his lack of ambition, Newcastle supporters will be hopeful a changing of the guard will see them back competing at the top end of the table and for trophies.

One man who knows what it takes to win silverware is Frank Lampard. As a player, the midfielder won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups, the Champions League and the Europa League.

The Sun report the 43-year-old is on the shortlist to replace Bruce at Newcastle with talks potentially starting as soon as this week.

Lampard is without a club having been axed as boss of his beloved Chelsea in January of last year, with his successor Thomas Tuchel going on to win the Champions League.
