Fans split over Tuchel losing Chelsea players or them throwing him under bus

Chelsea fans have been left split regarding Thomas Tuchel’s situation after his side suffered another defeat on Tuesday.

The Blues were beaten 1-0 in their first Champions League group stage match of the season. After a bright start to the game, they conceded a goal in the 13th minute from a counter-attack due to some shoddy defending and a non-existent midfield.

Tuchel’s players chased the rest of the game but looked disjointed all over the pitch for long spells. Despite a late push where they scored an offside goal and struck the post, they were kept at bay by the Croatian side.

It marked a third defeat of the season already for Chelsea following Premier League losses to Leeds and Southampton. And Tuchel appeared far more downbeat than usual in a candid post-match interview which explained his thoughts on the recent rough patch.

When asked on BT Sport if his team seemed to shrink after conceding, the German agreed, saying: “It’s hard to argue against it. You can analyse it like this."

He added: “We are clearly not where we need to be. So it’s on me it’s on us. Everything is missing. I need to find a solution for the next match. We told the players at half-time to play with more emotion, to play tougher, to step up and it’s obviously hard at the moment for us.”

A section of the Blues support reacted to Tuchel’s interview by coming to his defence on social media and insisting that the rough patch was down to the players.

One fan tweeted: “Wow. I think he knows the players are throwing him under the bus. Hope the owners stick with him and make it known to the players that he’s staying put!”

But not all were in agreement, as another user insisted: “He can keep deflecting the blame on the players. The players have downed their tools and don’t run any more. He’s lost the dressing room and needs to be sacked ASAP.”

A third said: “TT is part of the problem not the solution! He doesn’t know his best team and the sooner he departs the quicker the solution!!!”
