FA Cup prize money: How much can clubs earn in the fourth round?

FA Cup: Football Digest panel preview fourth round

FA Cup action returns following the introduction of Premier League and Championship club in the third round. There was also some traditional ‘giant-killing’ as non-league Chorley got the better of a depleted Derby side, while League Two’s Crawley stunned Leeds.

Chorley go to Wolves in the fourth round as Crawley take on Bournemouth.

However, the most eye-catching tie of the round sees Manchester United host Liverpool, just a week on from their Premier League stalemate.

Holders Arsenal will look to continue their recent resurgence with a tough trip to Southampton, while Manchester City go to fourth-tier Cheltenham.

Prize money for this season’s FA Cup was cut because of the coronavirus pandemic.

An FA statement read: “After two seasons of record levels of prize funds, the Emirates FA Cup prize fund has returned back in line with 2017-18 levels due to the financial impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

How much prize money is on offer in the FA Cup fourth round?

Clubs picked up £61,500 for their third-round victories, with the fourth-round winners to receive £90,000.

Usually, teams would also receive an equal share of the gate receipts but the current Covid restrictions mean all matches are being played behind closed doors.

However, an £85,000 broadcast fee will be paid to each club in the fourth round.

Televised games offer great advertising opportunities, which also generates large amounts for the FA Cup fund.

Speaking in 2016, Andy Clilverd, commercial director at Stadia Solutions, which specialises in the digital hoardings that run along the sides of the pitch, said: “Getting advertising access to the TV games remains very important.

“Advertisers don’t believe the magic of the cup has worn off – we have not seen a slackening off in rates.”
