Erling Haaland’s £63million transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester City is set to be announced later this week.

The Norwegian striker, 21, will link up with Pep Guardiola’s squad for the beginning of pre-season after City paid the release clause in his Dortmund contract.

Sportsmail reported last month that City had agreed terms with Haaland’s representatives and he will become the Premier League’s highest-paid player on more than £500,000-a-week, signing a five-year contract.

His arrival will provide a major boost to Pep Guardiola’s attacking options at Manchester City

Negotiations between City and Dortmund have been conducted smoothly and the Bundesliga club are expecting confirmation that the £63m fee will be paid to activate his release.

Haaland is one of the most prolific goalscorers in world football and has netted 85 times in 88 appearances for Dortmund during two-and-a-half years there.

He has been linked with Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United in recent months but has opted for the reigning English champions.

His father, Alf-Inge Haaland, spent three seasons at Manchester City during his playing career.

Haaland wasn’t on target in Dortmund’s 3-1 win over Greuther Furth at the weekend but he did score a hat-trick in a 4-3 defeat at home to Bochum the weekend before.

His final game for the club will be this Saturday’s final game of the Bundesliga season, at home to Hertha Berlin.

Dortmund have once again fallen well short of Bayern Munich in the German title race and are 10 points behind the 10-in-a-row champions as it stands.

He could make his first appearances in City colours during their pre-season tour of the United States with a match against Mexicans Club America scheduled for July 21 in Houston.

Once the season ends, Haaland is set to play four UEFA Nations League matches for Norway during June.

Guardiola’s side will only be strengthened by the signing of an out-and-out centre forward who reliably scores goals, something they lack at present.

City once again failed in the Champions League, losing dramatically to Real Madrid in last week’s semi-final, but they are on course to win a fourth Premier League title in five seasons.

They moved three points clear of title rivals Liverpool at the weekend with a 5-0 win over Newcastle United on Sunday, hours after the Reds were held at home by Tottenham Hotspur.
