Erling Haaland asked about sleeping alone in cringeworthy post-match interview

Erling Haaland was left bemused by a rather odd post-match interview.

The Norway international was taking part in his media duties after scoring twice in Borussia Dortmund ’s Champions League victory over Club Brugge on Wednesday, but was left confused.

The 20-year-old was hit with some interesting questions, one of which included if he was going to be lonely following the clash after missing out on getting a third goal and keeping the match ball.

Pundits Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards were perplexed by the interview, and started to laugh.

“Are you going to sleep lonely tonight?” the interviewer asked. With Haaland repling: “Erm… yeah.”

Before he was asked: “You're not taking a girlfriend home right now, you didn't score a hat-trick.”

To which the striker responded: “Didn't score, no.” Before the reporter said: “That was it, thank you.”

In the CBS Studio, Carragher laughed and said: “Jesus Christ, I thought we were all getting sacked!”

With Richards adding: “I had no idea where that was going!”

It appears as though the journalist was referencing an interview from Haaland’s time at Red Bull Salzburg in November of 2019, in which he said that match balls are his girlfriends.

He told Dagbladet: “I sleep with the five balls for each hat-trick I have scored.

“I lie in bed and I feel good with them. I look at them every day. They are my girlfriends.”

Since that interview the youngster has scored two trebles, one for Dortmund and one for Norway.

Haaland had also been asked about his good record against Belgian sides after the double, and he has now taken his overall tally with the Bundesliga challengers to 26 goals in 28 fixtures.

As many as 18 of those have come in 20 league appearances, and he has been tasked with firing Dortmund to their first league title since 2013 with Bayern Munich looking for nine in a row.
