‘This side is crying out for a manager to unlock its attacking potential’: England fans call for Brighton boss Graham Potter to replace Gareth Southgate after 4-0 hammering by Hungary… as they insist ‘we can’t let another generation be wasted’
- England suffered a 4-0 defeat to Hungary in the Nations League on Tuesday
- Fans have taken to social media calling for England to bring in Graham Potter
- The Three Lions supporters have criticised Gareth Southgate’s negative tactics
England fans are calling for Graham Potter to replace current boss Gareth Southgate after their worst home defeat in 94 years.
The Three Lions were thrashed 4-0 by Hungary at the Molineux Stadium to leave Southgate’s side sitting bottom of Group A3 in the Nations League after two defeats to Hungary and draws against both Italy and Germany.
It was Hungary’s second victory over England in the competition after their 1-0 win in Budapest earlier this month to round off a miserable four game spell over the international break.

Southgate, however, has a proven track record when it comes to tournament football having guided the nation to a World Cup semi-final in 2018 and the final at Euro 2020 where they fell short on penalties.
But that hasn’t stopped a flurry of fans taking to social media to insist that Southgate has achieved all that he can with this current squad and it’s time to look at Brighton & Hove Albion manager Graham Potter.
One fan said: ‘Not gonna abuse Southgate and nobody else should IMO but I do think he’s taken us as far as he’s capable.
‘We have a genuine chance of success with the squad we have but the manager doesn’t match up does he let’s be real. Get Potter in.

Fans believe Potter could help the England squad achieve more with his creative tactics
A second tweeted: ‘If you put Graham Potter in charge of this group of players, we will instantly start doing better and scoring goals. We can’t let another generation be wasted.
A third fan criticised the tactics: ‘How can England be this bad at breaking teams down? There are no risk-takers in the team, it’s all sideways and backwards.
‘Southgate is tactically out of his depth, it’s so obvious to see. Give Graham Potter this England team and he would work wonders.’
One fan simply criticised Southgate’s negative tactics and believes they need Potter’s tactics
Another fan knows it won’t happen but they would like to see Potter replace Southgate
Another added: ‘Get Graham Potter in. This side is crying out for a Manager to unlock it’s attacking potential.
‘Southgate’s one dimensional, negative, predictable systems have been found out. Time to go.
Another posted: ‘I know it won’t happen but I would love to see Graham Potter replace Gareth Southgate.
‘Given the pool of players we have, we should be one of the most exciting teams in the world.’
The humiliating 4-0 thrashing to Hungary was England’s worst defeat since 1928, a result which does not bode well with only five months to go until Qatar.

Southgate opted to rest key leaders Jordan Pickford, Declan Rice and Raheem Sterling
Despite sitting bottom of the group and needing a win to turn the tide, Southgate opted to rest key leaders Jordan Pickford, Declan Rice and Raheem Sterling against the Hungarians.
England held 69 per cent of the possession throughout the game but struggled to create any meaningful chances, as playmaking trio Mason Mount, Jack Grealish and Phil Foden were each left out of the starting lineup.
Harry Kane’s late penalty against Germany was the only goal scored by England in the tournament this summer.
