Manchester United legend Edwin van get Sar could be preparing a move to rivals Arsenal, with technical director Edu open to making way for him.
The former goalkeeper, who won four Premier League titles at Old Trafford as well as a Champions League, has been showing his business acumen as Ajax’s CEO over the last four years.
He has been performing this role while working with former Gunners star Marc Overmars, who is director of football for the club.
There are suggestions, though, that the 47-year-old is leaving the club soon – and a return to north London was put on the cards.
Current technical director Edu has faced fierce criticism as the summer’s transfers have failed to impact the squad positively, leaving them 15th in the table.
But Dutch outlet Voetbal Nieuws have reported that the Gunners could be a destination for Overmars’ colleague.
Van der Sar is “threatening to leave” the club, who have seen their best talents leave the club over the last two years.
And the criticism of Edu in north London has seen an opportunity emerge, which could see the 50-year-old move to his former rivals.
But Ajax could lose both of their board members as Overmars has also been linked with a move to Barcelona.
The 47-year-old is reportedly planning his move away from the club around the presidential elections at the Nou Camp next year.
It comes as Van der Sar gave fans an insight into how he has helped Ajax bring though players such as Donny van de Beek and Matthijs de Ligt.
Speaking ahead of Ajax’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool in November, the former goalkeeper said: “I think it's probably the DNA of the club.
“We are delivering players to the first team and they are coming from the youth academy. They give us success for two or three years and then it's the next step. Myself, Marc Overmars did it also.
“Our league is not strong enough so that way you take the next step. It gives us the opportunity to give the new breed a chance on the field.”
