England fans have flocked to Twitter during the England vs Andorra game to criticise the ‘hypocritical’ comments of pundit Lee Dixon.

In a match that has been dominated by the stadium being set on fire on Friday, it was the commentary that is causing ablaze on Saturday night.

In the 31st minute of the match, Andorra player Christian Garcia had to be replaced by Ildefons Lima due to injury.

Commentator Sam Matterface then revealed that the player coming on the pitch was 41 years old, to which Dixon replied: “He looks 51.”

The sarcastic comment, some could even interpret as funny, has divided social media, with some calling the former Arsenal player out for his comments, but others seeing the funny side of his statement.

One fan responded to the remark by tweeting: “What a cheeky b****** Lee Dixon is, the 41-year-old Andorran player came on and he goes ‘Oh, he looks 51.’ So?”

Whilst another commented: “Every time England play smaller opposition, the media always fail to show the most basic of respect. Show some humility for once, this is why no one likes you!”

One other user then said: “With charm and poor manners like that, think someone needs a word with Mr Dixon?!”

However, the response to Dixon’s ‘joke’ was met with some positive reactions.

One person said: “Forget what I said about Lee Dixon, ‘he looks 51’ is the best bit of commentary I’ve ever heard.”

Another simply commented: “On form tonight Lee.”
