Declan Rice ‘rockets to top’ of Erik ten Hag’s summer transfer targets

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is looking to land Declan Rice in the summer – with the Englishman 'rocketing' to the top of his targets.

Rice was at his very best over the weekend as the Hammers shocked Ten Hag's side at the London Stadium. And, according to The Sun, Rice's performance has now meant Ten Hag is ready to go all out for him in the summer.

A source told The Sun: “Rice is fast emerging as United’s number one summer target. He completely ran the game and United’s coaching staff and scouts were all talking about him after the match.

“There’s a growing belief that Rice is interested in leaving at the end of the season and United believe they simply have to ensure he heads north and not to Arsenal or Chelsea.

"The club regard him as a player they could potentially build a team around." Rice's contract is up next summer, and he's expressed his desire to represent a team in the Champions League.

Speaking in December, Rice said: "I’ve been playing consistently well for my club and I feel like I really want to keep pushing. I see my friends here who are playing Champions League and for big trophies."

However, the Red Devils might not be at Europe's premier banquet next season – as two defeats on the bounce have opened an unlikely door for Liverpool.

The Reds have had a torrid campaign – but all will be forgiven if Jurgen Klopp can guide them to the Champions League. Liverpool have won five on the spin, and they're only one point behind United – however, the Red Devils have one game in hand.
