David Moyes slams diving Edouard Mendy for faking injury in VAR decision

West Ham boss David Moyes has fumed at Chelsea keeper Edouard Mendy following his side's dramatic loss to the Blues on Saturday afternoon.

Maxwel Cornet thought he had earned a point against the Blues when he blasted the ball home in the 89th minute. However, it was chalked off after Jarrod Bowen was deemed to have fouled Mendy in the build-up to the goal.

And as Hammers fans fumed on social media, Moyes also criticised the decision after the full-time whistle. He said: "I support a lot of the VAR stuff, I actually think the goalkeeper dives, he is faking an injury because he cannot get to the next one.

"He did the same on the first goal as well. The referee somehow gets that so wrong it is incredible."

After being caught with a trailing leg from the Englishman, Mendy, who had already pushed the ball away, remained on the ground. As a result, he was unable to attempt to stop Cornet from blasting the ball home to claim a point.

Even after the decision went to VAR, it wasn't overturned as Chelsea claimed all three points.

Moyes added: "It is a scandalous decision, absolutely rotten from one of the supposedly elite referees. It doesn't say much about whoever sent him over from VAR as well – it is an unbelievable decision against us."

West Ham have now totalled up four points from their first six games of the new season.
