Daniel Levy has been tipped to appoint a 'mini Jose Mourinho ' as the Portuguese manager's successor at Tottenham Hotspur.
Mourinho was given the boot on Monday after a run of one win in five matches left Spurs’ hopes of qualifying for the Champions League hanging by a thread.
The north Londoners reduced the gap on Chelsea to two points following Wednesday night’s 2-1 victory over Southampton, but qualification remains in doubt.
Rookie boss Ryan Mason led the team against the Saints and will continue in the role until the end of the season when Levy could appoint a ‘mini Mourinho’.
The ‘mini Mourinho’ in question is young German manager Julian Nagelsmann, who has earned plaudits for his work with Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig.
Asked about the ‘mini Mourinho’ nickname in 2015, Nagelsmann was a touch coy on the subject.
He said: “Well, Tim Wiese once gave me that name. I think there is a big difference [between us] and I don't know Jose Mourinho in person.
“The elder players were very open with me. I am used to having an open relationship with everybody. I am no dictator. I don't fear a lack of respect from the elder players.”
Football Insider understands Tottenham have already made contact with the 33-year-old boss, who is said to be top of Levy’s managerial wish list.
Premier League stalwart Gabriel Agbonlahor is certain Nagelsmann will end up at Spurs and claimed the Leipzig chief is the club’s only target.
Talking to Football Insider , he said: “I can only see Nagelsmann. Daniel Levy will look at Tuchel at Chelsea and the impact he’s had. That new school type of manager.

“He will look at him and think ‘Ok, you know what? I want to bring in somebody like him. 100 per cent, he’s the only target.
“They won’t get for somebody like Brendan Rodgers, who’s a great manager.
“They will bring in somebody like Nagelsmann who’s doing very well and can take Spurs where they want to be. I think they’ll hold out for him.
“That’s why nobody will be announced to the end of the season when he’s available.”
