Micah Richards fought Cristiano Ronaldo’s corner after Chris Sutton claimed that Wolves forward Raul Jimenez is a better striker than the Manchester United superstar,
Ronaldo, 36, was not given an inch during a quiet outing on Monday night as Wolves ran out 1-0 winners at Old Trafford, with Conor Coady, Romain Saiss and Max Kilman stifling the Portuguese.
At the other end of the pitch, Mexican star Jimenez led the line well for the visitors, offering endless running while linking up well with the lively Daniel Podence and Francisco Trincao.

And speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live after the game, Sportsmail duo Richards and Sutton went head-to-head as the former City defender challenged his punditry colleague on his comparison of Ronaldo and Jimenez.
‘You look at him [Jimenez] and his movement and the way that he works for the team… he’s better than Cavani and Ronaldo,’ Sutton claimed.
‘What? What? Come on…’ Richards responded.
‘I’m telling you he’s more of a team player and this is the issue Manchester United have at the moment,’ Sutton insisted.
The Portuguese, 36, was unable to inspire a lacklustre United to victory at home to Wolves

Richards replied: ‘He played better today than Cavani and Ronaldo, yes. Cavani has built his career on running in behind, playing on the defender’s shoulder, smart and cute movement. He’s one of the best at it.
‘You look at Cavani, he’s a year older than me, so he’s coming towards the end of his career. We are talking about strikers… who has scored more goals this season, Ronaldo or Jimenez?
‘We’re not talking about Man United as a whole, we’re talking about the strikers. You’ve said Jimenez is better than Cavani and Ronaldo – you’ve given your argument and I’ve asked a simple question ‘who has scored more goals’.’
However, Richards defended the United star, pointing to the 36-year-old’s goal scoring tally
Ronaldo has scored 14 goals in all competitions, while Jimenez has scored just three as the Mexican continues to get back up to speed after his serious brain injury.
Sutton, undeterred by Richards’ argument, added: ‘Every week he plays better Micah, because he’s a focal point…he shows, he gets involved in the build-up. You don’t see Cavani and Ronaldo doing that.
‘It doesn’t matter how old they are, it’s about doing the job, if Cavani is getting too old he should sit out.’
