Cristiano Ronaldo coronavirus: How many games will Juventus star miss? Will he face Messi?

Juventus and Portugal star Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive for COVID-19, the Portuguese Football Federation (PFF) has said. The 35-year-old striker, who has “no symptoms” of the virus, will now isolate to avoid spreading it to others.

How many games will Ronaldo miss?

Ronaldo will miss the UEFA Nations League game against Sweden on Wednesday, October 14.

The Portuguese football federation said the striker was “well” and “has no symptoms”.

Other members of the Portugal squad have been tested, but they have all come back with negative results.

Ronaldo will also likely miss Juventus’ Serie A clash against Crotone on Saturday.

The club’s Champions League group stage game away to Dynamo Kiev next Tuesday is also in doubt.

Juventus will also take on Barcelona in two weeks time, on October 28.

Many fans have been waiting to see Ronaldo play against his biggest rival, Lionel Messi in the Champions League clash.

Messi and Ronaldo are amongst very few players in the history of football to score more than 700 career goals.

The two are often put up against each other, having won a combined 11 Ballon d’Or awards.

Messi has won six and Ronaldo has five of the impressive awards.

At club level, Messi and Ronaldo represented rivals Barcelona and Real Madrid for nearly a decade.

However, after Ronaldo’s move to Juventus in 2018, fans have been seen much less of the two on the same pitch.

The Italian team is the current champion of Serie A and one of the favourites to win the Champions League, but could face struggles without their star player.

Ronaldo’s positive covid test came after he posted a photo of himself on Instagram on Monday, sitting with his Portugal team mates.

The PFF confirmed in a statement: “Following the positive case, the remaining players underwent new tests this Tuesday morning, all with a negative result, and are available to Fernando Santos for training this afternoon, in Cidade do Futebol.

“The game (against Sweden), counting for the qualification phase of the Nations League, is scheduled for Wednesday, at 7.45pm, in Alvalade.”
