Chelsea manager Frank Lampard was still a player at the club when Van Ginkel arrived for £8m

Van Ginkel has become a forgotten man in west London after failing to make an impression.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was still a player at the club when Van Ginkel arrived from Vitesse Arnhem for a fee of £8million.

He has made just four first-team appearances for the Blues since signing and has turned out more for the Under 23s, playing eight times.

The Dutchman briefly caught the eye in his debut season before a cruciate injury in his second month of action halted his development.

He then spent the next season on loan at AC Milan and was a regular for the Serie A giants before playing for Stoke and PSV Eindhoven in 2015-16, helping the Dutch side win the title over Ajax on the final day.

Van Ginkel spent two more seasons in Eindhoven and managed to win a second Dutch title in 2018.
