Chelsea player ratings vs Southampton – Premier League

GK: Kepa Arrizabalaga – 5

One fine save early on, which he needed in this latest recall. But two awful blunders for Saints second goal.

DR: Cesar Azpilicueta – 7

Steady as ever on the right. Couple of fine early balls in led to chances.

DC: Andreas Christensen – 6

Caught out badly for the Saints goal as Ings nipped in between Chelsea’s two central defenders.

DC: Kurt Zouma – 5

One thumping header superbly stopped by Alex McCarthy. But had a nightmare for Saints’ second goal.

DL: Ben Chilwell – 7

Gives Chelsea another dimension on the left. Great runs forward from the back and accurate balls into the box. Booked.

MC: N’Golo Kante – 7

Was everywhere as usual, intercepting, breaking up play and keeping Chelsea moving.

MC: Jorginho – 7

Lovely ball for Werner’s second goal. Moved the ball well around Chelsea’s midfield.

MC: Mason Mount – 6

Worked hard and a couple of good runs into the Saints box but drifted out of the game at times. (Sub: Ziyech 71)

FW: Kai Havertz – 7

Floats about the pitch and produces some lovely passes. Lost the ball for Saints’ goal. But cool finish for first league goal.

ST: Timo Werner – 9

Lethal finishing twice from the brilliant German – and the dummy that threw the defender for the first was a delight.

FW: Christian Pulisic – 6

Found it hard to get going in his first start of the season. But nice pass set up Chelsea’s third goal.

Ziyech – 6

Had little chance to make an impact on his first outing

Other subs used: Reece James and Tammy Abraham – Not Rated
