Chelsea have received a boost in the transfer battle to sign Aurelien Tchouameni in the January transfer window. Thomas Tuchel is desperate for reinforcements with his squad beleaguered by injuries.

Chelsea might an extra boost in their race to sign a defensive midfielder, and that is down to Kounde’s agent.

Tuchel is desperate to see some signings arrive in January amid a tough December for injuries amid reports that the club are keen on West Ham star Declan Rice.

The Blues have lost Ben Chilwell for the rest of the season while Reece James is out for a significant amount of time after tearing his hamstring against Brighton.

It leaves Tuchel with one fit full-back in Marcos Alonso while Andreas Christensen was also crocked on Wednesday night, joining Thiago Silva, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Timo Werner in the physio room – with N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic still not fully fit.

It has led to Chelsea dropping points throughout the month and falling behind Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

Draws to Manchester United, Everton and Brighton at Stamford Bridge have left them eight points behind Pep Guardiola’s men – who have raced ahead after winning 10 on the spin in the league.

But there is some good news for Chelsea, who are looking at Tchouameni as a potential alternative to West Ham’s Rice, who has been valued at £100m.

According to the Telegraph, both players share the same agent – who has a strong relationship with the London club.

Reporter Matt Law told the London Is Blue podcast: “I think [Tchouameni] shares an agent with Kounde whom Chelsea are very much in touch with, and I think there’s a good relationship between Chelsea and Kounde’s agent from everything that went on in the summer.

“There was certainly no blame attached to Kounde’s agent that the deal ended up heading south, it was all put on Sevilla’s changing the goalposts.

“I know Kounde’s agent was annoyed with Sevilla.

“It feels like Tchouameni would be the sort of cheaper option than Declan Rice. Whether that makes him option A, let’s see.

“But I certainly think, at the moment, there’s a direction of travel that is quite positive in terms of Chelsea and Tchouameni.”

Chelsea had a move planned with Sevilla for the signing of Kounde only for the Spanish club to demand more money despite having an agreement.

It led to a breakdown in negotiations while Tchouameni has been a breakout star for Monaco and France during 2021.
