Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has received a positive update in his pursuit of Mauricio Pochettino. Real Madrid president Florentino Perez insists Carlo Ancelotti will not be leaving the club despite an offer to manage the Brazil national team.
Pochettino was expected to have been announced as the next permanent Chelsea boss by now. Boehly wanted to secure the appointment before the end of the season although he would not take over until the summer.
A potential spanner in the works would be if the Real job became available. The Independent claims that Pochettino is Perez’s No 1 target if Ancelotti leaves.
Ancelotti still has a year remaining on his contract at the Bernabeu. However, the Brazil Football Confederation have not hidden the fact they are attempting to lure the Italian to replace the departed Tite.

Pochettino therefore may have been prepared to wait to see if a vacancy opens up at Real. But the club’s president insists that will not be happening soon.
Perez is fed up with reports over Ancelotti’s future and has shot down claims he will leave. He told Marca: “I don’t want to hear more about it, he has a contract and we are happy.”
Chelsea now could have a free run at appointing Pochettino. The Argentine has been out of work since being sacked by Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
Pochettino’s arrival would not go down well with all Chelsea fans. He spent five-and-a-half years at London rivals Tottenham, leading the club to their first-ever Champions League final in 2019.

Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara can see supporters turning on Pochettino if results aren’t immediate. He said on talkSPORT: “Don’t even get me started. You’ve got Pochettino coming in. That’s not going to work. It’s not going to work. It won’t work. He was made for Tottenham.
“There’s unfinished business. The only reason he’s not going back there is because Daniel Levy is an idiot and he doesn’t want to go back on old ground because they fell out when he left.
“It’s Levy’s fault. [He’s going to fail at Chelsea] because he’s Spurs. He is Spurs. It’s not going to work. The fans are not going to be going for it. As soon as they have a few bad results, fans are going to turn on him instantly. It ain’t going to work, I’m telling you.
“It’s the same as Rafa Benitez going to Everton – I’m telling you, it’s exactly the same thing.”
