Chelsea could see Matthijs de Ligt bid HIJACKED by Bayern Munich

Chelsea could see Matthijs de Ligt bid HIJACKED by Bayern Munich who are ‘ready to offer a huge £76m for the Juventus defender’ in potential blow for manager Thomas Tuchel

  • Chelsea were prepared to offer a bid of around £68million for Matthijs de Ligt
  • But Bayern Munich now appear in pole position to land the Juventus defender
  • The German outfit are in contact with Juve over a transfer this summer
  • De Ligt has two years of his Juve deal left but is not keen on extending stay

Chelsea could reportedly suffer a severe blow in their pursuit of Matthijs de Ligt, with Bayern Munich in line to submit a huge £76million offer for the Juventus defender.

The Blues were leading the way to sign the Holland international earlier in the week despite Bayern’s interest with the German side thought to be unable to match the £68million the west London side were ready to offer the Italian outfit.

Chelsea have long identified De Ligt as a key transfer target this summer, with centre-backs including Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger having already left the club on the expiry of their contracts.

Yet according to Goal, Bayern are now ready to make a higher bid that consists of £63million up front with another £13m in add-ons and bonuses.

The report also adds that the German champions have already contacted Juventus and are in negotiations.

De Ligt still has two years left on his contract at the Allianz Stadium but is thought to not be interested in committing his future to the Turin outfit.

Juve are also open to selling the 22-year-old this summer or next year while he still holds strong financial value.

Club CEO Maurizio Arrivabene hinted that De Ligt is also ready to move on, telling Tuttosport: ‘Today, keeping a player who wants to leave is impossible. It’s not always about the money and if one wants to go, you don’t just tell him: ok, go ahead.’

Part of Chelsea’s transfer offer to Juventus was to offer Timo Werner as part of the deal, but they were unable to reach an agreement.

Instead it is likely the Blues may now turn their attention to Nathan Ake in a bid to re-sign the Dutchman.

Ake joined Chelsea as a youngster in 2011 and remained at the club until 2017, taking in a series of loan spells. In total he made 17 senior appearances for Chelsea and won the Europa League and the League Cup.

A move to Bournemouth followed before Ake signed for City in 2020. He played just 14 Premier League games for Pep Guardiola’s side last season.

Bringing Ake back to Stamford Bridge may not be straightforward, however, with City warning Chelsea that they have no plans to sell him.
