- MATCH REPORT: Chelsea make winning start to pre-season in Las Vegas
Thomas Tuchel was pleased to see his Chelsea side get their US tour off to a winning start after the Blues edged past Club America 2-1.
Mason Mount clipped a stunning winner to ensure team-mate Reece James was left with no fear and loathing as Chelsea secured victory in Las Vegas.
The England midfielder kept his cool to curl home from outside the area and secure the win after James had comically slotted a backpass beyond third-choice keeper Marcus Bettinelli to cancel out Timo Werner’s opener at the air-conditioned Allegiant Stadium, close to the famous strip.

A feisty match against Mexico’s Club America exploded into life after a goalless first-half, leaving Tuchel – who changed his entire line-up at the break – grateful for both the win and the fact none of his players were injured.
‘Normally you start against a lower team where you find your rhythm,’ he said. ‘You could see that they’ve already started their season. They showed a physical game that we had to adapt to, I’m happy nobody got injured. It was sometimes on the edge for a friendly game, especially for us.
‘It was OK. We adapted, accepted it and didn’t get frustrated.’
Tuchel resisted the temptation to play new signing Raheem Sterling in Las Vegas
Chelsea fans will also have to wait a little longer to see Kalidou Koulibaly in action
Neither Raheem Sterling or Kalidou Koulibaly, £85m worth of new signings, featured. They are now both in full training after jetting out to the US to join their new team-mates and may well play a part in Chelsea’s next match in Charlotte on Wednesday night.
Speaking for the first time about the impact the Napoli defender can have, Tuchel was gushing in his praise.
‘He brings experience, quality, top defending, height and everything what we are looking for,’ the German said. ‘It’s a brilliant signing for us, we hope he can show his quality as soon as possible. We are very happy.’
