Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel could soon be blessed with two young stars who have the potential to emulate Frank Lampard as key goalscoring box-to-box midfielders at Stamford Bridge. Although the Blues currently top the Premier League, they could be even stronger next season thanks to returning loan stars and prospective transfer business. Given how extraordinary Lampard’s numbers were, they may well remain unmatched, but Express Sport looks at the two stars who could tread the same path in 2022/23.
After dazzling displays for Crystal Palace and a full England call-up, Gallagher’s name is on everybody’s lips at present.
The 21-year-old has been on four different loan spells while contracted to Chelsea, but after his early showings for Palace this season, it seems likely he will head back to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
The likes of Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Saul Niguez and Mateo Kovacic could make first-team opportunities hard to come by, but his displays are forcing Tuchel to sit up and take note.
With four goals and two assists from 10 matches so far this campaign, his output could soar even higher with Chelsea-calibre talent surrounding him.
JUST IN: Chelsea boss Tuchel facing Conor Gallagher ‘worry’ after England debut
With a season in store under the tutelage of iconic midfield general Patrick Vieira, he could indeed be a scary prospect by the time his loan spell concludes.
The Blues could have a relatively hard time fending off competition though, with Newcastle reportedly holding talks over Gallagher for two summers in a row.
Although the Magpies certainly cannot match Chelsea for quality or silverware in recent years, they may be able to provide more concrete guarantees in terms of game time.
Sam Allardyce, who managed Gallagher at West Brom, has previously warned him about the Blues’ competitive squad, but he could just about be ready to grasp his opportunity to fulfil a Lampard-esque role next campaign.

It is easy to forget just how young Bellingham is based on how much football he has played already.
Since moving to Borussia Dortmund, he has become a nailed-on starter, and he is going from strength to strength with five goal involvements already in the Bundesliga this season.
With his progress spiking, England fans wait with bated breath to see just how high he can fly, particularly considering he is just 18 years old.
Fans of Premier League clubs are also sure to be keeping tabs on his situation, as a hoard of heavyweights position themselves to make a move for the talented midfielder.
Chelsea already had a run-in with Dortmund over Erling Haaland this summer, and they reportedly believe that they are in a strong position to beat the competition to Bellingham’s signature in the next 12 months.
Liverpool have also been heavily linked, with an £80million price-tag touted which could be even higher by the end of the season.
Shelling out the big bucks seems guaranteed, given that his contract out in Germany is due to run until 2025.
With Dortmund also able to provide him with consistent game time, it would take some effort to prise him away, but if Chelsea managed to do so they could have their hands on the Premier League’s next generational English midfielder.
