Carabao Cup quarter-final draw details after Arsenal and Chelsea progress

Arsenal and Chelsea are through to the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup after winning their last-16 clashes on Tuesday night.

The Gunners’ home tie against Leeds United went as smoothly as Mikel Arteta could have wanted with Calum Chambers and Eddie Nketiah providing second-half goals to snatch a 2-0 win.

Rivals Chelsea had a far tougher time in facing Southampton despite Kai Havertz opening the scoring before the break, with striker Che Adams’ goal forcing the match to be decided by a penalty shoot-out.

Misses from Theo Walcott and Will Smallbone were punished by defender Reece James, who scored the deciding penalty, having done the same in the previous round against Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, QPR suffered a defeat on penalties to League One side Sunderland after a goalless draw in normal time.

That leaves the quarter-final line-up to be completed on Wednesday evening as West Ham welcome current champions Manchester City and Tottenham travel to Burnley.

An in-form Liverpool visit Championship side Preston on the back of a 5-0 win over Manchester United in the Premier League, while Stoke face Brentford.
