Bristol City like to do things their own way on social media – and their Wolf of Wall Street-inspired tweet confirming Nigel Pearson as the club’s new permanent manager was no different.
The Robins have garnered plenty of internet fame over the years for their use clever use of goal gifs, with players encouraged to partake in wacky videos for the side’s popular social Twitter feed.
But the announcement confirming Pearson as the club’s new permanent boss after a successful short-term stint at Ashton Gate has taken things to an entirely new level.
Revealing the news on Thursday afternoon, Bristol City tweeted a clip depicting Pearson as Jordan Belfort from The Wolf of Wall Street .
In the video, Belfort – with Pearson’s face slapped on top of his own – draws huge applause after declaring: “You know what, I’m not leaving. I’m not leaving. I’m not f****** leaving.”
Football fans on social media loved it, with one calling the clip ‘amazing’ and another dubbing it ‘superb.’
“This is easily the best manager announcement I’ve ever seen,” was the view of another excited Twitter use.
While someone else added: “This is the content you love to see!!!!!”
In a statement on Bristol City’s website, Pearson said: “I’m delighted to become the permanent manager of Bristol City.
“This is such a fantastic opportunity at a sound football club that has so much more potential.
“The Lansdowns have a long-term vision, not just for Bristol City but for sport in the area, and I’m very grateful for the chance to be at the forefront of that.
“I want to be part of a team that gets to the Premier League. It’s going to be a tough journey and we’ll need the right people on board to achieve it but I am excited about the possibilities ahead.”
