Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is reportedly ‘seduced’ by the idea of reuniting with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United. The Netherlands international previously played under his fellow Dutchman at Ajax. And a move to Old Trafford could be on the cards come the end of the campaign.
Barcelona signed De Jong from Ajax back in the summer transfer window of 2019 after the midfielder had dazzled under Ten Hag.
However, he’s often struggled for consistency during his spell at the Nou Camp – with his current form under Xavi not up to scratch.
In recent weeks, talk has gathered pace that De Jong is wanted by Ten Hag as the new United boss looks to build a dynasty at Old Trafford.
And Sport now say that De Jong is ‘seduced’ by the idea of quitting Barcelona for the fallen Premier League giants this summer.
The 24-year-old has been supported by Xavi since the Spaniard took charge of Barcelona earlier in the season.

But he had a better relationship with Ronald Koeman, who lost his job at the end of last year.
De Jong has apparently ‘hit rock bottom’ for Barcelona after putting in a dire display in their recent 1-0 defeat to Rayo Vallecano.
And he is now described as ‘fading’.
Barcelona could cash in on De Jong this summer, despite Xavi making it clear the player wasn’t for sale.
The La Liga titans need to make a big sale before June 30 in order to balance their fancies.

And United may now be his next destination.
Ten Hag’s new team aren’t the only club being linked with the 24-year-old as the summer transfer window creeps closer, however.
Bayern Munich have emerged as potential suitors, with Julian Nagelsmann hoping to win the Champions League next term.
And Paris Saint-Germain are also in the mix, despite missing out on De Jong back in the summer of 2019.
De Jong isn’t the only player Ten Hag may reunite with at United this summer, either.

He’s been tipped to pursue Antony, with the Ajax star drawing comparisons with Neymar for his stirring performances this term.
And Jurrien Timber, the Ajax centre-back, is another seemingly in his sights.
Meanwhile, regarding the change needed at United, former goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has had his say.
And he believes that while the appointment of Ten Hag is positive, he also thinks it’s a ‘gamble’.
“It’s a decision that’s been made and I think that’s very, very positive,” he said.
“There are, and I think it’s obvious to everyone, so many things that need to be done at Manchester United.
“The whole football department needs to be restructured. The way we are thinking about how things are supposed to be done, everything needs a bit of a rethink. Announcing the manager is a decision that needed to be made.
“It’s a step in the right direction but, If I’m honest, it could be him or it could be literally anyone. It’s such a big job so everything would be a bit of a gamble.
“I wish him all the best and hope he can help in the process of rebuilding Manchester United.”
