Barcelona lose Wijnaldum transfer battle as PSG ‘offer double’ in wages

PSG have hijacked Barcelona's deal for Liverpool's Georginio Wijnaldum, after the Catalans had a 'verbal agreement' with the Dutch star.

From the minute that Wijnaldum announced he would be leaving at the end of the season, he looked destined for Barcelona and the Camp Nou, but that looks set to change.

Wijnaldum has spent the last five years on Merseyside, and the last six in England, however, he announced that Liverpool would not be extending his contract.

The Dutchman had a verbal agreement with Barcelona, but PSG have swooped in – during the 11th hour – as Wijnaldum has made a U-turn.

Transfer guru, Fabrizio Romano, tweeted: "PSG are now ready to hijack Wijnaldum deal – while Barça were already planning for medicals!

"Gini now open to accept PSG proposal, salary doubled – Pochettino called him too. If Barcelona don’t raise their bid, Wijnaldum will join PSG."

He then added "Georginio Wijnaldum has just signed his contract with Paris Saint-Germain, confirmed and done deal. Medicals pending in the next hours then it’ll be official. Agreement until June 2024.

"Gini changed his mind yesterday – he’s not joining Barça and he’s now a new PSG player."

PSG failed in their latest attempt to capture the Champions League, and they even lost their grip on Ligue 1, as Lille pipped the Parisians to the post.

Pochettino has taken the reigns, and he looks set to add Wijnaldum to his squad for his first full season in Paris.
