Aymeric Laporte has suffered another injury blow after being substituted just 33 minutes in to Man City's clash with Real Madrid .
The French defender was making only his fourth appearance since recovering from a serious knee injury which has sidelined him for much of this season.
Laporte had been moving gingerly during the first half of the Champions League tie at the Santiago Bernabeu, before he sat on the turf to receive treatment.
Medical staff attended to the 25-year-old, and at one stage approached him with a stretcher, before Laporte rose to his feet and hobbled off the field.
City boss Pep Guardiola made an immediate substitution, sending Fernandinho on in Laporte's place, and will now be sweating over the fitness of his first-choice centre-back.
Laporte was forced to undergo knee surgery in September after being taken off on a stretcher during the Premier League match with Brighton .
He suffered damage to his cartilage and lateral mesicus, and missed over four months of the season.
Despite making three appearances since his return, Laporte was yet to complete 90 minutes.
He was replaced after 58 minutes of City's win over Leicester on Saturday, with the Madrid fixture his third appearance in eight days.
