Atletico Madrid returned to La Liga action with a 2-0 victory over Elche on Thursday evening.
Premier League target Joao Felix opened the scoring just over ten minutes after the break, before former Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata added a second with fifteen minutes to go as Diego Simeone’s side sealed all three points.
Both sides were reduced to ten men either side of the break, when first Elche’s Gonzalo Verdy was shown his marching orders for bringing down Morata with the striker through on goal. Then, Mario Hermoso was shown a second yellow card early in the second half.
The win sees Atletico move up to third in the table, eight points behind city rivals Real Madrid.
