Arsenal secured a £45million deal to sign Thomas Partey from Atletico Madrid before the transfer window drew to a close last night.

Mikel Arteta was keen to strengthen in midfield this summer, having deemed Matteo Guendouzi and Lucas Torreira surplus to requirements at the Emirates.

Guendouzi was offloaded to Hertha Berlin on loan, while Torreira’s loan move to Atletico allowed the Gunners to swoop in for Partey at the last minute.

Late on Monday night Arsenal confirmed they had just about got a deal for the Ghana international over the line – meaning Arteta can now field this mouthwatering XI.

After Emiliano Martinez’s departure, Bernd Leno is the undisputed No.1 in between the sticks for Arsenal this season.

Arteta prefers setting the Gunners up in a 3-4-3 formation, although he opted for a slightly more adventurous 4-3-3 in Sunday’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United.

If he selects a three-man defence, new signing Gabriel, David Luiz and Kieran Tierney are his strongest trio.

Hector Bellerin is Arteta’s most reliable option at right wing-back, while Bukayo Saka should edge Ainsley Maitland-Niles over on the left.

Partey is likely to partner Granit Xhaka in the middle of the park, but Dani Ceballos is a more than suitable replacement if the Switzerland star comes out.

In attack, Willian seems to be Arteta’s first choice on the right flanl, with star forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang positioned on the left and Alexandre Lacazette deployed through the middle.

The Arsenal boss is delighted to have added Partey to his ranks, branding him an "intelligent footballer".

“We have been watching Thomas for a while, so we're now delighted to add such a high-quality player to our squad,” Arteta said.
