Arsenal plan to announce the signing of Oleksandr Zinchenko this week and are looking at the possibility of his medical taking place in the USA, according to reports. Arsenal have agreed a fee of up to £32million with Manchester City for Zinchenko.

The Ukraine star is set to become the Gunners’ fifth signing of the summer. He will be reunited with Mikel Arteta, whom he worked under during the Spaniard’s time as Pep Guardiola’s assistant at the Etihad.

Arsenal usually do their medicals for new signings in London. However, the Standard says they are exploring whether it can be completed in the USA.

Zinchenko is currently with the City squad on their tour to the States. Arsenal are also currently across the pond and have two more fixtures before flying home at the end of the week.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, writing for Caught Offside, says the deal for Zinchenko will be announced this week. So it appears he will be unveiled as an Arsenal player in the USA.

Zinchenko has agreed a four-year deal with the Gunners. It will take the club’s spending to over £115m in this window.

The 25-year-old will join former City team-mate Gabriel Jesus at the Emirates. Goalkeeper Matt Turner, midfielder Fabio Vieira and winger Marquinhos make up the quintet of new arrivals.

Zinchenko’s versatility is one of the aspects of his game which has attracted Arteta to his signing. Former Crystal Palace midfielder and Tottenham fan Darren Ambrose reckons it would be one of the best deals of the window.

Ambrose told talkSPORT: “I think this could be one of the signings of the summer and I don’t like to say that because I’m a Spurs supporter. £30m for Zinchenko, [Kieran] Tierney has his issues with injury so he’s more than adequate cover, but I think he’ll be going into midfield and I think it improves Arsenal’s midfield.

“When you watch him for Ukraine he plays in midfield, he gives you that bite, he’s clearly a leader as well, he’s clearly a good character. Mikel Arteta knows him from Manchester City so they’ve got a good relationship, Gabriel Jesus is already there.

“City and Arsenal have now got that relationship. City are not bothered about Arsenal at the moment so they’re sending them players for half decent prices as well.

“£30m in today’s climate is a good price for a player I feel will go straight into Arsenal’s first team.”
