Arsenal supporters have been clambering for Mikel Arteta to give more of the club’s youngsters a chance after a shocking domestic season. The Gunners are set for their lowest finish in the Premier League for over 25 years. Express Sport looks at the starting XI Arteta could pick if he turns his back on some of the more experienced players next season, as well as bringing in three new signings.
Goalkeeper – Simon
Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Unai Simon is linked with a summer move to the Gunners.
Simon has started all six games for Spain since his debut last November.
The 23-year-old has become a regular at club level since the departure of Kepa Arrizabalaga to Chelsea.
Bernd Leno has made a string of mistakes this season and Spanish outlet La Razon say Arteta wants to replace the German with Simon.

Defence – Lamptey, Saliba, Gabriel, Tierney
Arsenal are in the market for a right-back, with neither Hector Bellerin, Cedric Soares or Calum Chambers nailing down that spot this season.
Brighton’s Tariq Lamptey is a target after impressing before his season-ending injury.
William Saliba has been a regular for Nice since his loan in January and a full pre-season with the Gunners could help push his cause for a starting spot.
Gabriel has looked shaky of late at the back but Arteta is likely to persist with the £27m signing, with Kieran Tierney at left-back.

Midfield – Bissouma, Partey; Smith Rowe
Yves Bissouma has undoubtedly been the standout player for Brighton this season and Arsenal are keen.
The Daily Star claim the Gunners are confident of beating their rivals to a £30m deal for the midfielder.
Bissouma would likely partner Partey in the midfield, with Granit Xhaka’s time as a regular starter in the middle of the park having run its course.
Emile Smith Rowe slots into the No 10 position after an impressive breakthrough campaign.
Attack – Saka, Balogun, Martinelli
No new signings in the front three but a trio of teenagers instead.
Folarin Balogun signed a new contract recently to the delight of many Arsenal supporters.
Whether he is ready to be the club’s first-choice striker remains to be seen but he will surely get more of a chance next season.
Bukayo Saka is already a key player at the age of 19 and Gabriel Martinelli exudes the character and quality of what Arteta is demanding from his players.
