Arsenal player ratings as Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka blow Leeds away

Arsenal’s youngsters showed once again they can cope without former captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the Gunners ran riot at Elland Road in a 4-1 win.

With Mikel Arteta stripping Aubameyang of the armband this week, the Spaniard called on Gabriel Martinelli to deliver the goods in their trip to Leeds.

A Martinelli brace and goals from Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe gave the visitors maximum points, despite Raphinha pulling one back from the penalty spot in the second half, and sent Arsenal into the top four for Christmas.

Metro.co.uk takes a look at how Arsenal’s stars got on in the impressive win over Leeds.

Arsenal player ratings (out of 10)

Aaron Ramsdale6

Hardly had anything to do and could do little to save Raphinha’s perfectly placed spot-kick.

Takehiro Tomiyasu – 7

Another impressive display at the back and showed he’s also not afraid to push forward or take on a player or two.

Ben White – 5

Was in the right place at the right time when balls were delivered into the box for most of the match but gave away a penalty for a wreckless tackle.

Gabriel – 6

The Brazilian has certainly had busier games but he still led the backline comfortably and cleared his lines when needed to.

Kieran Tierney – 6

Held Raphinha at bay through large parts of the game and pushed forward to support the attack when needed to.

Thomas Partey – 6

Had very little to do in midfield but helped break up any Leeds attacks when required.

Granit Xhaka – 6

Provided a brilliant through ball that took out Leeds’ entire backline for Martinelli’s second. Was lucky to avoid red for a bad tackle in the second half.

Martin Odegaard – 7

Linked Arsenal’s midfield play well to help start Arsenal’s attacking moves as well as regularly tracking back to help out in defence.

Bukayo Saka – 8

A constant threat down the wing and deserved his goal having previously struggled to get a shot on target.

Gabriel Martinelli – 9

Didn’t stop running throughout the match and took his tally to four for the season with two convincing finishes. Caused the defence plenty of problems.

Alexandre Lacazette – 7

Martinelli will take the plaudits but the Frenchman held the ball up well and allowed his teammates space by dragging Leeds’ defenders away from the ball at crucial times.

Subs: Cedric Soares (6), Emile Smith Rowe (8)
