Arsenal are keeping a close watch on Raheem Sterling’s contract talks at Manchester City, Daily Star Sport understands.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is a huge admirer of the England winger, 26, and had an excellent relationship with him during his days as Pep Guardiola’s number two at City.
And Sterling, with only 20 months left on his current deal, is one of those at the top of the North Londoners’ list of potential transfer targets.
Talks with City over extending his stay at the Etihad are underway again after they stalled at the end of last year when the player changed representatives.
However, they are moving ‘slowly’, according to sources close to the club – amid Sterling’s financial demands and his continuing struggle to command a regular starting place in Pep Guardiola’s side.
Sterling, 26, currently earns £300,000 a week at the Etihad and is looking for that to be increased to £350,000 before committing his future for another four years.
However, he also knows that if the present stalemate persists, City would be likely sell him next summer rather than risk losing him on a free.

Two years ago Sterling was valued at £100million but he would cost less than that should it get to the point where he has only a year with the Premier League champions.
The ex-Liverpool winger, a £50m signing in July 2015, is also waiting to see if he can reclaim his place under Guardiola.
Sterling, with 79 goals in 201 league games with City, went from from automatic pick to substitute towards the end of last season and, despite superb displays for England during the Euros, has continued to be used sparingly.

At the moment he appears behind Jack Grealish, Phil Foden and Gabriel Jesus in Guardiola’s false number nine pecking order.
Should that frustrating situation on the pitch continue, he may well decide to uproot – with Arsenal a likely destination for the Wembley-born ace.
