Arsenal fans baffled at £50m Thomas Partey transfer update – ‘this doesn’t make sense’

Arsenal fans have been left confused as news emerged of their interest in Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey. The Ghana international is valued at around £50m and is liked by the Gunners.

He’s been eyed up as a potential reinforcement for Mikel Arteta’s side in the middle of the park.

Partey, 26, has become a key part of Diego Simeone’s side after graduating from the club’s academy and his impressive form in La Liga and the Champions League has impressed the north London side.

However an update from Spanish journalist Kike Marin about Partey’s future has left Gunners supporters baffled.

He wrote on Twitter: “Confirmed: the @Arsenal He was already interested in Thomas Partey, but right now his signing is not considered € 50 million and it is normal to renew your contract with the @Atleti Another thing is that he does not want to continue and his club negotiates. #Arsenal#Thomas.”

Arsenal fans couldn’t work out if the tweet was what they wanted to hear or not.

“Arsenal FT trying to figure out if this is good or bad news,” replied one. Another posted: “Can’t work out if that’s saying we are interested or not.”

A third wrote: “What does this confirmado exactly?” Another added: “Even the translation doesnt make sense.”

“This doesn’t make sense,” bluntly wrote another.

Several other fans tried to de-code the message.

One wrote: “Arsenal interested but not at £50m. Normal for Atletico to have him to renew a contract while clubs negotiate…. I think.”

While another posted: “Basically reports that Arsenal was interested in Thomas in the past, but rn aren’t willing to sign him, and is expected that he renews his contract with Atleti. Hints that he wants out but Atleti are forcing negotiations.”

An update on Arsenal’s interest in Thomas Partey has left Gunners fans bemused

He told ESPN: ”At the moment, I am happy at my club.

“But in football, you never know when and where you’ll be in the next day or year.

“The Premier League is a good league, it’s very competitive and has some of the best players in the world,” he added. “Hopefully, one day. I would like to play there.

“My agents are on it so I will leave everything for them,” he added.

“For me, I am happy playing football and I will continue to play where I am now until something comes up for consideration.”
