Arsenal chief Edu posts boardroom picture after Thomas Partey transfer

Arsenal supremo Edu has posted a picture from within the boardroom after signing Thomas Partey on transfer deadline day. The Ghana international has arrived from Atletico Madrid in a £45million deal. And the La Liga giants are far from happy about it.

Arsenal went into transfer deadline day with fans expecting a quiet 24 hours.

However, in a dramatic twist, the Gunners managed to secure the signing of Partey from Atletico Madrid by paying £45million to secure his signature.

It represents quite a coup for the north London giants, who had appeared to cool interest in the midfielder beforehand. Atletico are raging about the deal, especially after missing out on Lucas Torreira.

And Edu has now posted a picture to social media, showing himself and other members of the board all arm in arm.

“Sometimes we get things wrong and sometimes we get it right, as part of our life, but when you work with dedication and love things happen. Let’s continue,” he said.

The photograph included Vinai Vinai Venkatesham and head coach Arteta, while the emojis used suggest there was plenty of food and drink (coffee, not alcohol), consumed that day.

Edu lauded Partey after his arrival, saying: “Thomas has all the right attributes to be a top player for Arsenal.

“He is a leader on and off the pitch and he is exactly the kind of player and person we want at the club.

“We already feel like we know Thomas very well based on the work we have done analysing his performances closely in recent times.

“With his all-round game and positive aggressive style, he will be a brilliant addition to our squad. We’ve made a strong start to the season and we want to continue to build on this with Thomas now part of our club.”

Arteta was also jubilant, saying himself: “Thomas has all the right attributes to be a top player for Arsenal.

La Liga TV presenter Semra Hunter, meanwhile, believes Partey has ‘lots to offer’ to Arsenal.

“Thomas Partey has a lot to offer. He has been one of the best players at Atletico Madrid over the last two seasons,” Hunter said.

“He was key for them in their Champions League campaign.

“He is someone who is very good at protecting the defence but is also very good at going forward.

“He is an excellent passer of the ball. He is great when it comes to ball recovery and pressing up the pitch.”
