Arsenal have drawn up a three-man transfer shortlist with the help of sporting director Edu. It comes amid speculation over Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s future after being stripped of the captaincy.
Aubameyang’s future has been the main subject at Arsenal over the past week after the much-publicised decision to strip him of the captaincy.
His late arrival at training was the last straw for Mikel Arteta, who had already been looking for a new striker in the transfer window.
The Gabon international is one of the few remaining players at the club who previous scout Sven Mislintat had helped bring in.
But his poor discipline has been brought to the forefront by Arteta, who is now looking to sign a new forward.
Despite signing Aubameyang to a new contract, the 32-year-old’s form has drastically declined since last September when it was signed.
The former Borussia Dortmund star is the club’s top earner but Arsenal now appear ready to cut ties while finding a suitor might be difficult.
Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid have been linked while the Gunners already have a replacement in mind.
In fact, according to EuroSport, sporting director Edu has three in mind – all of whom could be exciting talents at the Emirates for years.
The first is a long-term target in Alexander Isak, who impressed for Sweden at the Euros and was heavily linked with a move in the summer.
Another on Arsenal’s wishlist is Everton hitman Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who has the necessary experience in the Premier League.
The England international has had a torrid time with injuries this campaign but has all the right framework to replace Aubameyang, in terms of finishing and aerial ability.
Despite playing just three times in the Premier League, the 24-year-old has scored in all of them and much of the problems with the Toffees has been down to his absence.
However, perhaps the most exciting target in Arsenal’s shortlist is Fiorentina star Dusan Vlahovic.
The Serbian striker has been in sensational form, scoring 16 times in 18 appearances in Serie A and has been linked with a multitude of clubs.
But Arsenal appear to be winning the race, though it will depend on whether the club can fork out the necessary transfer fee – which could be as much as £70m.
