Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has refused to speak on the video of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang questioning his ability to manage big players. Arteta and Aubameyang will go head to head for the first time since his departure this lunchtime as the Gunners visit Chelsea.

The striker left Arsenal in acrimonious circumstances in January. After several disciplinary breaches, Arteta stripped him of the captaincy and finally saw fit to let him leave the club to join Barcelona.

Aubameyang is now back in the Premier League having completed another deadline day move to join Chelsea. Shortly after he signed for the Blues, a video circulated on social media where the 33-year-old criticised his former boss.

Aubameyang was heard saying: “Big characters and big players…he can’t deal with it. He needs some young players who don’t say anything.”

Ahead of today’s reunion, Arteta was asked his thoughts on those comments and what it meant for his current players. The Spaniard was asked: “There was that video doing the rounds of him saying that you struggle to manage big personalities, I’m sure you’ve seen it.

“Is that a bit harsh on the players that you’ve got here? Not just on you but other players that you’ve got here.”

But Arteta refused to issue Aubameyang a response. He simply said: “No comment.”

The former Gunners skipper has since stated the video was filmed shortly after he joined earlier in the year. He tweeted: “Aware there is a video out that was recorded just after I arrived at Barca.

“At the time I still had a lot of bad feelings in me – Arsenal are doing great things this season and I wish all my old guys well, just not on November 6.”

Arsenal fans got an inside look into the saga surrounding Aubameyang on the Amazon All or Nothing documentary which followed the club last season. Arteta still hasn’t watched the series and says he has not spoken to fans about Aubameyang’s departure.

He said: “I don’t know because I haven’t watched it. So I don’t know. No, the fans haven’t spoken to me about that.”

Arsenal will end the weekend top of the table if they beat Graham Potter’s side. However, the Blues are yet to taste defeat at home under the former Brighton boss.

Aubameyang has scored three goals so far in a Chelsea shirt. However, he is yet to score a home Premier League goal for the club.

“Big characters and big players…he can’t deal with it,” Aubameyang is heard saying. “He needs some young players who don’t say anything.”
