Antonio Conte has already revealed how he plans to get the best out of striker Harry Kane in news that will be music to the ears of Tottenham fans. Spurs are expected to appoint the Italian as their new head coach after sacking Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday morning.

Nuno was dismissed after just four months in charge having overseen a terrible run of results.

His fate was sealed by the 3-0 thumping against Manchester United on Saturday. There were also disappointing defeats against Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Arsenal, Vitesse and West Ham.

Chairman Daniel Levy moved quickly to part ways with the Portuguese, who had been appointed following a chaotic recruitment process.

Levy is now widely expected to appoint Conte and one of his first tasks will be to improve the form of star man Kane.

The England captain has scored just one Premier League goal this season and has appeared distracted by summer transfer rumours linking him to Manchester City.

But Conte has already explained how he will get the best of the 28-year-old with a tactic that Spurs fans will love.

Many supporters and pundits have suggested that Kane has played too deep in recent years. Conte will solve that issue by making sure the striker is in the penalty area when his team is attacking.

Speaking as a pundit during Euro 2020, the 52-year-old said: “Many praise Harry Kane for his ability to go get the ball and play with the team, such as with the equaliser against Denmark.

“Of course, he’s good at that too, but it’s in the box where he’s clinical and as a coach, I would always keep him in there because he’s devastating.”

Kane’s performances were hardly helped by Nuno’s tactics. During the 3-0 defeat by Chelsea in September, he was often on the left wing.

The academy graduate has also been used in a higher midfield role with Son Heung-min ahead.

Should he be appointed, Conte has several other issues to solve.

Spurs are eighth in the Premier League having already lost five matches. They have scored just nine goals in their 10 league games.

The North Londoners also face a battle to qualify from their Europa Conference League group.

They were one of the favourites to win the competition but an embarrassing defeat by Vitesse has left them with plenty of work to do.

The Daily Telegraph report that Spurs’ squad have been warned to prepare for Conte to take charge of training on Tuesday morning.

The former Inter Milan head coach’s first game will be at home to Vitesse on Thursday. Spurs then travel to Everton on Sunday.
