An Ajax ballboy grew so fed up with Roma star Riccardo Calafiori’s time-wasting that he decided to launch a ball at the player.
With Roma 2-1 ahead in stoppage time of their Europa League first leg, Calafiori was seemingly desperate to hang on to the lead.
As the Serie A side were awarded a throw in, Calafiori was handed a ball though dropped it and went to collect another one.
But that angered a ballboy in Ajax, who responded by aggressively throwing a ball towards the left back.
It hit Calafiori in the chest with the defender initially grasping at where the ball struck him.
He decided staying on his feet was the best course of action and had a few choice words to say to the ballboy.
But it didn’t end there with Calafiori booked for his time-wasting efforts, not that he would have minded with Roma hanging on for the victory.
Ajax had gone ahead on the night through Davy Klaassen though Roma equalised with Lorenzo Pellegrini’s free-kick squirming in.
Ibanez gave the Italian side their first-leg lead as he netted a half volley with just three minutes of normal time left.
Though the ballboy incident was the main talking point in the end, with fans siding with the young helper.
One wrote on social media:: “He had already provided the ball to the player, who then threw it away. I don’t like ballboys doing stuff to influence the game, but this lad was within his right. He already did his job and the player was being a time wasting tit… who was then booked!”
