Any hopes of a return to the Premier League this summer for Aaron Ramsey appear to be over after the midfielder sustained an adductor injury in Juventus’ 2-2 draw with Udinese at the weekend. Ramsey enjoyed a stellar spell with Arsenal earlier in his career.

Ramsey spent more than eight years with the Gunners after joining the club from Cardiff City in 2011.

The 30-year-old scored 65 goals and assisted another 65 during 371 appearances for the north London side.

He excelled as a ball-playing midfielder with an eye for goal during a period where Arsenal would regularly leave fans purring at their mouthwatering style of football.

Ramsey won three FA Cups during his time at the club and was a stand-out performer under Arsene Wenger.

The player suffered a broken leg following a crunching tackle from Stoke City’s Ryan Shawcross in 2010 and was ruled out of action for over a year.

But he returned to rediscover his best form after his recovery.

Ramsey was a crowd favourite but, following Wenger’s departure from the club, the Welshman couldn’t agree a new deal and eventually departed the capital at the end of his contract to join Juventus.

The former Cardiff man made 24 league appearances during his debut season in Turin as Juventus stormed to their ninth consecutive Serie A title.

Last season he played 22 league games but couldn’t help his team make it ten on the bounce as Inter Milan cruised to the title.

Ramsey played an hour for the Italian giants against Udinese. He underwent diagnostic tests at his club on Tuesday morning, with the tests revealing a low-grade injury to his adductor major muscle in his right thigh.

He will undergo more tests to determine the length of his latest setback at the end of next week.

Ramsey had been tipped for a return to the Premier League this summer, with Manchester United, Tottenham and Everton apparently interested.

“It’s been a pretty frustrating couple of years for me, picking up little injuries and not being able to get back to full fitness,” Ramsey said earlier this summer.

“It’s been a strange time in general, which hasn’t helped – arriving at Juventus with an injury, trying to get my fitness back, then you’re hit by a pandemic and we had to start again.

“It’s been difficult to get any consistency going.

“The aim is to get back into decent shape and show what I’m capable of again.

“I still feel like I have many years ahead of me and it’s just about getting my body back into a decent place where it can perform regularly again. I’m confident that I can do that.”
